I will take you through page by page and briefly explain how I designed it and the idea behind it.
This is my wreck this journal and the supplies I use to destroy it.
To cover my wtj I used an old pair of denim jeans as a base. My initials LM were done by first cutting out the letter holes in the denim then applying the floral pattern behind. The journal came to life once I added buttons, frayed patches and started to fray the denim. I was so pleased with how it turned out.
The title page of the journal is basic and was a spur of the moment design of possibly tie dye. The next few pages after this are self explanatory of what I did and how I did it.
[It would not let me rotate this image, how annoying.]
My copyright page idea was stolen from tumblr but I added my own touch on the left hand side and used my iTunes playlist at the time to add my favourite EPs and albums.
I'd say the next page symbolises the start of the book because it was one of the very first pages I did. I took a picture of my red high top converse, printed it off and stuck it above sole prints of the same pair of converse. This was for the "stand on this page" page.
"Pour, spill, drip, spit, fling your coffee here" page let me have a lot of fun. The background is just coffee beans and water which allowed me to stain the page slightly. For the additional, bolder stains I made some coffee icing up so that it would be sticky and paintable. By dipping a mug into the icing and pressing it against the page I could create a cup stained effect. I also stood the book up so that the icing would drip. The final touch was adding Caffe Nero, Costa Coffee and Starbucks Coffee logos.
The next five pages are not as fun as the two above.
This is another favourite of mine but it was the most tedious. Since I am English I first had to correct the spelling in the instruction. The score of 286 is actually how many separate squares are coloured in, yes I counted them.
There are some destructions which require you to cut out the pages and follow the instruction. This little plastic wallet is where I keep all the pages that are like this.
My "write one word over and over page" is probably the same word that everyone has seemed to have done but idc. The day I finished reading "the fault in our stars" by John Green was the best and worst feeling. Simultaneously, a book can make you so happy and so sad so I dedicate this page to Hazel-Grace Lancaster.
I can't make paper chains very well so...
As there is no set way how to create a page I used the test page practically in the opposite way and made it neat and organised.
Monday 6th May 2013 was the newspaper I used for the next page.
For a replacement of "grocery list" I used receipts from all my favourite shops specifically for this purpose. I outlined each receipt in colour even though there was a layered effect.
Instead of literally hanging in a public place I used social media as a way to inspire this page. I asked twitter, instagram and tumblr if people wanted their users written on this page. I only asked this morning so there are no names written on it yet.
"Document time passing" was inspired by 2013 for a number of reasons. I spoke to Ed Sheeran in February, I met Nina Nesbitt four times, I met zoella, sprinkle of glitter and pointless blog and I just generally had a good year. I used my Ed Sheeran 2013 calender along with my water colours to produce the page.
Tangled is my number one favourite princess film so I had to create a page about it. I chose the "hide a secret message somewhere in this book" page as the story of rapunzel is about a secret of her being hid in a castle.
These are all the pages that I have done so far and I may do an update when I have completed some more.
Thanks for reading.
Lauren.
